Import competition and dropout rates (The US)

. . . [W]e examine changes in dropout rates among American public high schools in the face of increased competition from Chinese manufacturing imports. Across a broad range of specifications, we find that as local import competition increases, high school students are less likely to drop out.
The paper is here. The ideas is that more import competition increases the returns to education.
